# Ritual at Kirkwall Tower *"This will expand your control over magic you have only begun to touch -- only begun to imagine!"* 11:38pm in the Observatory ## Participants [[Cyrenna]] [[Finch]] [[Sullivan]] [[Masha]]: the willing sacrifice [[Charlie]]: the unwilling sacrifice [[Henry]]: the host ## Story As revealed in her notes found in the [[Natural Repository]], [[Cyrenna]] knows about the dragons returning. She was a member of the team who was sent to eradicate the last of the dragon eggs before the [[Silver Years]]. Because of her participation in this eradication, she felt responsible for their returning. She decided to enlist the help of [[Vecna]] to take care of the new dragons and instill order. She has always known Henry to be of unique skill, so she mentored him to be the suitable host to become the [[Exarch]] of [[Vecna]]. Playing on his pride, she tempted him with a unique study session at the end of the semester. This trickery expanded to Charlie as well, knowing she would follow Henry to the session. This would lead to the ritual, aligning the three people needed for the summoning and binding -- one willing, one unwilling, and one to be the host. Cyrenna did not account for two things that night, however: - First, that [[Nora]] would be there that night - an additional, unattuned being in the ritual space - Second, that Henry, even scared, would be able to use his unique magics to stall the world around them, even reaching through time to his father for help ## The Unfinished Ritual The ritual was unfinished because of Henry's willpower and fear to resist the binding. In a desperate plea for help, he cried out to the one person he could think of - his father. One of the artifacts in the Observatory was the [[Sword of Kas]], the original sword that slew the mortal Vecna. In combination with Henry's cry for help and the sword's resistance to the Vecnan energy coming from the tome, the sword shattered, allowing Henry to send a shard back to his father's time.
